❯ CXMT’s expansion roadmap points to 420,000 wafers a month in 2027 as conventional memory supply tightens

Capacity plans matter to the supply outlookCXMT’s expansion is an important variable in discussions of conventional memory supply. Previously published Counterpoint Research analysis projects monthly wafer capacity rising from approximately 320,000 to 420,000 in 2027, an increase of about 31%, through new facilities in Shanghai and Beijing and its Hefei manufacturing cluster. These are expansion expectations rather than output already delivered.

AI and conventional memory compete for resourcesDRAM provides working memory for phones, computers and servers. HBM stacks DRAM layers to supply the bandwidth required by AI processors. TrendForce’s September research says AI server demand is keeping HBM and conventional DRAM in competition for limited advanced-process and wafer capacity. Improving new-product yields and output also takes time.

Actual supply depends on ramps and product mixCXMT’s expansion creates a potential source of additional conventional memory, but equipment installation, yield improvement and customer qualification must precede stable deliveries. Product mix determines how much memory ultimately reaches phones, PCs and servers. Expansion improves the medium-term supply outlook; price movements still depend on demand and actual shipments.
